Lily Aldridge hair And Fashion

Ombre Hair

My next hair appointment is on Jan. 20th. I'm requesting this look. My hairstyle Brooke, thinks it will be a fun change. She loves doing something different and I usually do the usual. I have to admit, I'm starting to get really nervous about attempting this look because if it isn't done perfectly I think it could look really dumb. (No pressure Brooke) Actually lots of pressure Brooke! Please make my hair look just like Lily's perfectly sun-kissed, bleached out hair. :)

I'll let you know how it all works out, but meanwhile I'm putting good energy out there for a great outcome. Wish me luck!

I had my hopes up for Lily hair, but since my appointment ended up being just two days before I went to Hawaii, we wouldn't have any time to correct anything that might have gone wrong. So Brooke and I decided together that we had better play it safe. That said, we did still turn the color up a notch and she weaved in bigger chunks of hair in the copper color.

Here's what we ended up with.

These pictures show how my hair color changes a bit in different lighting. If you look right where I part my hair in front close to the roots, it looks like more of a maroon red. That part was my fault. I have a dark red brown color that I use at home to touch up my grays in between hair appointments. I get them mostly on the left side of my head. Since I apply it directly to the gray roots I thought it was the same color as my own dark brown roots. I never could tell how red it was until I used it on top in the very front. What happened was we tried to place copper right in front where I part my hair. Lily has highlights up high just along the front in her hair. But when Brooke took out the foils, it looked bright orange on those pieces against my natural dark brown, although I did like it everywhere else. I didn't want to take up anymore of Brooke's time since she was doing my hair on her day off. So I said I would just fix it with my own color at home. That was a mistake on my part. But it isn't that bad. In some light you can't even tell at all. Like the next picture where I'm pulling my hair back.

I think that I should have just left it alone because copper always feels very orange to me at first, but after a couple of washes it fades out and I really like it. I just thought that with the photo shoot in 5 days I couldn't take the chance. It probably would have been perfect by then.

Oh well, like my Dad always said, "There's a lesson in it." I learned more about color and we still plan on going even lighter next time.

This is still the goal for me.

Lily Aldridge hair / 2nd try

Lily

Remember my first attempt for Lily Aldridge hair? We'll this is attempt number two. We went a little lighter, and while I like it, it still isn't enough to look like Lily's.

My play it safe attempts just aren't getting me there. I guess next time I have to just be willing to go all in. When I see pictures of her hair and then mine, it's easy to see, I still have quite a way to go.

Can you even tell the difference between my last try and this one? If you look closely at my part you can see that we did manage to get rid of the maroonish looking color (see Lily Aldridge results post) I had used to try to fix what felt like too much orange surrounding my face. I should have just left it, because my attempt to fix it made it worse.

For me, the highlights in front look a bit bold, but I'm going to leave it for now because I've learned that copper fades pretty fast. So in a week or two I'll have a better idea of what it will actually look like. I'm hoping it will fade to a warm blond.

These pictures were taken the day after. I tried to post several to show how much highlights change in different lighting. Even Lily's hair looks different in her pictures.

I can also see how my hair stylist and I need to be more artistic in placing the highlights and some lowlights too. For some reason we've struggled with the width of the highlights surrounding my face. Her's looks thinner.

So what do you think? Should I call it good, or really go for Lily hair?

Lily Aldridge hair / 3rd try

So this is how attempt #3 turned out. As you can see, it's not really working out for me.

I did end up with lighter highlights, but it's still not the balayage look.

This is my niece. She has beautiful naturally sun kissed hair which is the whole point. I want my hair to look super sun kissed, not like I got foiled highlights. And don't get me wrong, using foils to highlight works beautifully, it's just not going to accomplish what I'm going for.

I'm starting to wonder if it's even possible for me at this point. Isn't the 3rd try supposed to be charmed?

Lily Aldridge hair accomplished!

If you've been following my obsession over Lily Aldridge's hair at all for the last few months, you already know of my agony over not being able to accomplish the look. You can click on these links to my past attempts if you'd like to catch up on my story.

Attempts #1, 2, and 3

But my pain is no more. All because my sweet friend Priscilla pointed me to her friend Julie Brown. Pri told me on facebook how great Julie was and gave me her phone number. So when I text Julie to make an appointment, I was quite surprised to find out she was still in hair school. But after 3 attempts I was feeling a little desperate, plus Pri has great style so I knew I could trust her.

Here are my results...

My hair color changes with the lighting. I noticed Lily's does too so I took in several pictures of her to Julie so I could make sure we were on the same page in achieving the balayage look.

Ombre Hair
This picture is still one of my favorite Lily hair pictures.

Here you can see how much lighter my hair is in outdoor light. This next picture of Lily has a lot of outdoor light as well.

The only thing I'm not 100% happy about is that the dark color Julie put on the back bottom of my hair turned out too dark. I wanted some of the hair in back to be dark like hair would be naturally but it wouldn't be so dark at the tips. Anyways Julie says it will fade out a bit. At this point I'm going to live with it for atleast a month because my poor hair has been through enough! I'm not even planning on blowing it dry for a couple of weeks.

So here's a little advice if you want the summer sun kissed hair on steriods look. Take in pictures, or if you're like me, take in your laptop and show lots of pictures of what you want to achieve and what you don't want. For instance...

That way you don't end up with someone else's interpretation of what your trying to achieve. Trust me! Your hair can only take so many do overs. While I love Drew's outfit, I didn't want her take on the balayage look for me.

Lily Aldridge hair still going strong

So if you've been following my blog, you know that I've been a little on the obsessed side with having Lily Aldridge hair.

I tried again and again at the beginning of the year, (about 4 times) before I got it right in April. I haven't touched it since and it still looks great 5 months later.

We just had family pictures taken, so I'm using them to show how the Lily look is still working for me.

From left to right top row, Jordan, Ashlee, Corby, me, Ashley, Kyle, Alyssa, bottom row, Peyton, Micah, Joseph.

Me and all my very favorite people! I love you family, and even though you can't see him, I love you CJ! He's our oldest and lives in another world now, but is in our hearts always! We miss him, we miss him, we miss him!

If you want more information on how to get the look go to this link for some good do it yourself info.

or here if your not that brave. Like me :)

I also suggest you take your favorite Lily Aldridge picture in to your hairstylist. Here is one of my all time favorites.

At this point if your hairstylist hasn't heard of ombre or balayage highlights, then it's time to get a new stylist.

Good luck!
